Servare Intaminatum

En el centro de Atenas y sobre la Colina de las Ninfas frente al Partenón se encuentra el edificio financiado por George Sinas y construido en 1842 con un diseño de Teophil Hansen y que fue el Observatorio de Atenas. Bajo su cúpula, y entre otros instrumentos, en su día se instaló un refractor de 158mm y cinco pequeños telescopios para observar cometas. En la actualidad es la sede del Observatorio Nacional de Atenas, y en él se desarrollan actividades de divulgación abiertas al público así como observaciones en colaboración con astrónomos amateurs. En su fachada principal figura su máxima «Servare Intaminatum» (mantener inmaculado), y así es casi dos siglos después.


In center of Athens and on the Hill of the Nymphs and across from the Parthenon is located the building financed by George Sinas and built in 1842 with design of Theophil Hansen and which was the Athens Observatory. Under its dome, and between other instruments, in those days was installed a 158mm refractor and five small telescopes to observe comets. Nowadays is the headquarter of the National Observatory of Athens, and in which is developing divulgation activities opened to public as well as observations in collaboration with amateur astronomers. In its main frontage it’s found its motto «Servare Intaminatum» (to kept intact), and so is after near two centuries.
